ABOUT GNCFC
We, fishermen in the artisanal fishing industry of Ghana, aware of the emerging challenges posed by multiple users of Ghana’s marine space, limited fishing grounds ,increasing impoverishment in coastal fishing communities, food and livelihood insecurity, our role in safeguarding a sustainable artisanal fishing industry and the need for transparency and accountability in Ghana’s fisheries sector and the overall Socio-economic empowerment of our members; have agreed to come together to form a National Council to contribute to an improved governance, responsible and sustainable fisheries industry in Ghana.
OBJECTIVES
- To promote unity and co-operation among all members
- To ensure appropriate, affordable, and regular supply of technical inputs and equipment for artisanal fisheries actors
- To enhance a positive image and public opinion of artisanal fishers
- To encourage voluntary compliance of fisheries policies, laws, and regulations in the fisheries industry
- To engage government and other stakeholders in fisheries governance and management
- To secure and manage landing beaches.
- To foster co-operation and understanding with other fisheries related actors.
- To ensure the general welfare of members.
